#122 Oh Snap! Part II

Nostalgia Goggles!

Sometimes I go back and play games I loved as a little kid and realize how lame they really were. But I still love them anyway.

Also, if you love pokèmon snap, don’t worry, this is only part 2 of a pokèmon snap trilogy.

Note: I am attempting commissions (only for the forum type avatars, but possibly I’ll try bigger things later on, depending on how this goes). If you do one now, you are basically a guinea pig, and I should apologize in advance for things going wrong… but don’t worry, they are ONLY FIVE DOLLARS!!

A Review

I hadn’t realized so many people agreed with me that Pokemon Snap was an awesome game. I encourage everyone who said that they liked Pokemon Snap to go play it again, and reevaluate your opinion. Upon replay this game is pretty bad! I usually struggle with the controller for any 64 game, but Pokemon Snap has some balls controls. For a breakdown of the gameplay you point at things and take pictures, or throw items. Basically you point at something and press a button. This could really be said for most games, although I would argue there is a lot more to most games. But when your sole source of gameplay is to look at things you would think that they would make the aim controls rock solid… good…. FUNCTIONAL!? No. You are basically fighting the limp dick excuse for an analog stick the 64 stock controller carries the whole entire game! Since the actual gameplay element is non-existent it is pretty much ruined by the controls. The graphics are mediocre, even for the time. There are a lot of cool secrets and special stuff, which is always cool, but really there is no challenge finding them, the whole game is simply playing the levels enough times until you know what to do and when to do it.  The only reason to get this game is to oogle pokèmon which is fun for some nostalgia factor now, and pokècraze when it came out, but it really is just a gimmick. This game is best played one or two courses every couple of years. This gives you enough to time to forget its not good and play some before it gets too repetitive. Even still I actually like this game, It isn’t good, but I like it. Then I recommend moving on to some of the N64 classics like Super Smash Bros, because that’s really why you dusted off your 64 in the first place.

    Pokemon snap was the best!

And if we’re going to talk classics then It’s Ocarina of Time all the way!!

  4. Tirumari

but as a follow-up, Super Smash is also fun when you play online… it works really well on pj64k!

Nostalgia aside, the game is chill~.

There are only a few games worth dusting off the 64 for: Super Smash Bros., Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart 64. That’s it! Everything else is balls in comparison.

Well, I wish I could re-evaluate my opinion, but the last time I played it was 3rd grade. :3

If you think that’s bad, do NOT go play GoldenEye 64. DO NOT TARNISH YOUR MEMORY OF IT.

Man, the N64 had so many slightly terrible and yet awesome games:
    Iggy’s Wrecking Balls
Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire
    Army Men: Sarge’s Heroes
    etc.

    Custom Avatar: DO WANT.

Hey, just fyi. I went to go buy my avatar, and found that the only link to it is in this post. Might want to add it to store or something before it’s lost in the archives.

I love my N64. I still have it plugged up, though I only have a couple games left…

ah…the good old days of the 64. First game I played was Jet Force Gemini, I LOVE THAT GAME, Then there are the Zelda games, I’ve spent hours playing that thing.

Given your interests, you might find this interesting. It’s collab of flash animators, featuring Nintendo products as a theme. Pokemon Snap makes a rather risque appearance.

I was still playing N64 games as recently as a year ago… in fact I have sort of a tradition of playing through Ocarina of Time every summer. Perhaps I’ll put Snap back on the queue, I remember many a time that I missed a shot of a Lapidos or something and had to redo the whole level to get it.
