![]() All My Friends I should mention that the text in the comic isn’t directly quoted. While I was working on the comic, I showed it to Nik and Sean, which just started another discussion/argument about how what I wrote in the comic was actually WRONG etc etc. But I think you get the point. |
![]() Everyday… When Nik and I aren’t discussing music we are arguing music. Although usually more intellectual and conceding it does often boil down name calling, mothers are often involved. But before that it is insightful!… maybe. If you are at all interested this is the song |

I have to side with Nik. Music has become too generic over time. Very few bands really bring out an original and inspiration sound. Fight the power Nik. Fight it!

Er, I didn’t pick up anything about generic from that. Most music made up of single chords is weirder avant-garde stuff that can get away with repeating the same sound for an hour. <.<

I took a real quick listen and it sounded like it changed a few times…though they are doing the same thing to it, and it’s possible they only changed because of the vocals, but that’s what we call inversion folks!

@Drew: Music hasn’t become more generic—it just seems that way because unoriginal music is forgotten faster and the innovators fill the gaps in our memory. There’s also a difference between “generic” and “monotonous.” If the song bores you, fine, but I think the (early) Beatles proved long ago that a music doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective or original.

Well the reason why music had become so monotonous is because it has to sell. One of the first things you learn in psychology is that people enjoy the same. It doesn’t make sense but I can give you an example that does; Have you ever heard a song in the radio and you didn’t like it at first but it was overplayed so many times and you started to digg it? The music business like any other business makes money with the help of psychology lol. Let me give some AWESOME exhamples.

This comic has now become my favorite comic ever, just for even listening to All My Friends. It’s my favorite song ever.
Also, I’m also a red head
I don’t really care if a song has the same chord or a simple melody. As long as it sounds good.

@O. Ok so I didn’t actually listen to it before. Listening to it now, yea it’s not generic….but it’s the same chord over and over. Sure some other stuff is going on but that repetitive keyboard is killing me lol. And the Beatles went through so many different stages of progression I only like half of it lol. I’m not saying music has to be complicated to be good either, I would just prefer a band use it’s elements to tell a story rather than set up a beat or groove to sing over. Music is a powerful tool and I feel many people waste it.
It’s my curse though lol. I’m fortunate in knowing exactly what I want out of music but now I’m overly picky. It’s the price we pay for greatness
haha

So, never heard the song before I read the comic. Which I the day it published (because I love it and check daily). Today, was walking down the street, some guy drove by in a red suburban, he had the windows down and was playing this song. I just started laughing.
Bottom line-All my friends=Jammin music.

I figured you two would know better than to start a discussion about music on the Internet.
Or maybe you knew exactly what you were doing all along… Diabolical.

I love LCD Soundsystem! Squee
Not my favourite track but a good one nevertheless.

Uh.. I really like LCD Soundsystem, but I think the old stuff is better, I haven’t heard much on their new album. By the way, awesome comic.

This is actually the best song ever. It’s the lyrics you listen to, it’s music from a guy who has a long background in really long songs and electronic production. It’s supposed to be simple
